As a youth in Oklahoma in the 1930s, "squirrel barking" was always the goal of every hunter if you wanted to put edible meat on the table. We always hunted with 22 caliber rifles and aimed at the bark directly beneath the squirrel. To hit a squirrel with a Civil War mini ball would leave nothing worth eating.
