ANCESTOR PART OF STREIGHT'S RAID..???
In Response To: Prison Camp Gen Forrest? ()

Hello James -

the part re your ancestor being taken prisoner by N.B. Forrest before being sent on to Rome, GA sounds very much like your ancestor might have been of Streight's Raid (April 11-May 3, 1863).

You need to get a copy of your ancestor's CSR (compiled service record); you can get it from the National Archives in Washington DC (very slow) or from Broadfoot Publishing in Wilmington NC (very FAST). If you don't know the name of your man's unit, Broadfoot will look it up for you.

Broadfoot has a webpage for this service, but I can't find the URL for you right now.

IF you man was in Streight's Raid, he might have been in one of the following Federal units:

51st Indiana Inf.

73rd Indiana Inf.

3rd Ohio Inf.

80th Illinois Inf.

1st Alabama Cav. (Union)

1st Middle Tennessee Cav. (Union)

good luck in your search!!!!

y.o.s.,

Kenneth Byrd
