Re: Letters from 154th Senior Regt soldier

Hello. No, he was a foot soldier, made it all over the South from what I can tell, and then walked home when it was over. James T. Harper was with Co. H. 5th Tenn. Infantry.
My thoughts have been he made it home to his mother who in turn nursed him back to health.
He was at Shiloh when a big general, I think it was, was brought in by his men. They both had the same wound, but the officer had a severed artery and bled to death.
J. D. Pearce of the 8th Arkansas did the same thing-went home to his parents house several days after the battle. That is known from his pension application. His brother went to the battlefield, picked him up in the wagon and headed home to Mifflin, Tenn. taking him back to his parents home. Then on the 4th of July, J. D. Pearce sat out walking back to join up with the 8th at Cornith.
Both men could have gone home on disablitiy, but neither did.
