I looked up James H. Martin in Seventh Tennessee Cavalry,
by J. P. Young - Morningside Bookstore, P.O.Box 336, Forest Park Station, Dayton, Ohio 45405 - book still in print.

He is listed : Company A - Martin, J.H. , Date of enlistment - May 16, 1861 - Detailed October 15, 1862 to assist the A. A. G.; afterward Aid-de-camp to Gen. Jackson.

There is an engraving of him on page 161 that reads;
J. H. Martin, Co. A. Subsequently Capt. & Aide de Camp to Gen W. H. Jackson.

Unfortunately my scanner it out just now or I would send the photo to you. If he is close kin, I would suggest buying the book. He may be mentioned in it more as the author was from Company A.

My great-great grandfather was commander of Company A and is mentioned 35 times in the book as well as there being the first engraving of him the family had ever seen. He was Lt. Colonel William F. Taylor so I am sure that he was well acquainted with your Martin as he was the commanding officer.

The book is still in print. Check Morningside Press in search or the above address.

If I can be of any more help, feel free to e-mail me.

William L. Taylor of Seaford, VA, formerly of Martin, TN.
