Enjoyed reading about Col. Hume R. Feild. My late aunt attached a note to the copy of my GGG Grandfather's military roster card - James A. Moore (Lieutenant) Co. H, 1 (Feild's) Tennessee Infantry.

Her note was dated Jan. 14, 1998 - Union City, Obion Co, Tennessee and stated:

Col Hume R. Feild, after the Civil War, lived here. He lived on South First Street. The story goes that he had a dog that he would send uptown each day to bring him his newspaper. Also he would send him out to his rose garden to bring him a white rose, which he did or a red rose, which he did. This information was given me years ago by Mrs. M. O. Box of Exchange Street. She also told me that Mr. Feild married a relative of General Nathan B. Forrest.

Thought this was an interesting sidelight. Her note was the reason I searched google tonight. My aunt was considered resident historian of the community.
