The Strawberry Plains area was used as a camping area by Longstreet after He gave up the seige of Knoxville and before he retreated back through the mountains to Virginia. The area was used for spprox. 3 months with considerable skirmishing taking place. The major battle in the area was the Battle of Bean's Station on Dec. 14, 1863. Longstreets memoirs has quite a bit on this period.
