Re: 51st Tennessee In The Great Snowball Fight

I have an actual letter from Thomas Tinsley dated March 29th, 1863 (This is 1 year earlier than the date March 22, 1864) and it starts:

"Camps near Dalton, Ga. March 29, 1863
To my dear wife and sweet children,
My dear yesterday was a day of great excitement here the night before last it snowed and nearly all of yesterday the troops formed in line of battle and fought like tigers with snow balls it was a great sight to look at the snow on the ground was over four inches deep so you must think we had a big fun day today the sun is showing itself and melting the snow very fast..."

He continnues with,"I received a letter from my brother James, he is in Demopolis, Alabama.."

The letter is signed, "Your loving hhusband, Thomas Tinsley"
