Hi Tom, The Magee story is puzzling to be sure. He was awared his Medal of Honor in early 1866 so it is not like it was a 20 or 30 year process to get it. Whatever he did must have warranted special attention. Where do you get your information that Magee led the Ohio units into battle? The OR and his Medal of Honor citation do not state this; the OR simply says "bravery in action" and the MOH citation says only that he was among the first to reach an enemy battery. Eric
