Ms. Guffey,

I apologized but I am not familiar with the Presbyterian Church in Charleston, Tennessee.

Charleston, Tennessee is mentioned several times in the "The War of the Rebellion: A Compilation of the Official Records of the Union and Confederate Armies." Washington, D. C.: U.S. Government Printing Office, 1880-1901. This several dozen multi-volume set is not all inclusive but it will be a starting point for you. You will find a complete set of these books at the E.G. Fisher Library in Athens, Tennessee or the Chattanooga Public Library in Chattanooga, on the 3rd Floor. I am not sure if the Bradley County Library has any. The Library there does have several books on history in the county during that time period and at least one diary account by a teenage girl.

The town was a crossing point over the Hiwassee River for the Eastern Tennessee & Georgia Railroad. This railroad was strategically important for the movement of men and material from the Deep South to Virginia.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Respectfully,
