The Official Atlas includes a map of the town showing its defenses on page 111, plate 15. It also appears on a map of eastern Tennessee, page 149, sector B-12.

The National Archives publication, Guide-Index to the Official Records Of The Union And Confederate Armies, 1861-1865, lists the following incidents at Charleston, Tenn.:

-----skirmishes at Calhoun and, Sept. 25 [26?], 1863 (East Tennessee campaign). SEE UNDER "Calhoun."
-----skirmish at, Nov. 26, 1863 (Chattanooga-Ringgold campaign; raid on the East Tennessee and Georgia Railroad). SEE UNDER "East Tennessee and Georgia Railroad."
-----affair at, Nov. 30, 1863 (Knoxville campaign), 54:Ev255. See also 56:282.
-----skirmish at, Dec. 28, 1863, 54:U641.
-----skirmish at, Aug. 18, 1864, 77:Ev3. Union troops engaged per battle lists (a) 2nd Ohio Hy. Art. (h) same unit, Co. E (1 man killed). NOTE:This entry was derived through battle lists from the record of events on the Field and Staff muster roll, which indicates Cos. C, F, K, and L, under Lt. Col. [Martin B.] Ewing, fought with Confederate forces under Gen. Wheeler at Charleston on this date and "repulsed him after a short engagement."
