Let's just say that the health of a typical man that age was not usually equal to the demands made on it by military service. Just look at the number of strong young men in their late teens and early twenties discharged due to collapse of their health. Also bear in mind that average life expectancy for men at that time wasn't much over this man's age in 1860.

It doesn't sound as if there are two service files for this man. However, if there were two, both should be available in the same reel of microfilm for this regiment. All entries for him in Camp Morton records should be carded and placed in his file(s). If you have questions about this, you may wish to review the Camp Morton microfilm for yourself.
