As a US military veteran and trained historian I do not like the use of the word "insurgency," or its related words. This is a fadish word of the present time. It is a loaded word that does not properly indicate what insurgents are, or even the true nature of the opposition. Remember that those of us with Revolutionary War ancestors do not like to have our ancestors called insurgents, without mentioning that the enemy was an occupying power trying to rule over our people.
