Bridge Burnt at Chattanooga

This article appeared after the Great locomotive chase and Andrews raiders were captured.

On May 7th 1862 an article appeared in the Daily Intelligencer saying; “Colonel Leyden with a detachment of his artillery battalion went to relief of Chattanooga on Saturday last when it was supposed the enemy in considerable force was advancing upon it , returned to our city yesterday morning and reports all quiet at that place. He also advises that from some of the misunderstanding is the bridge over the creek near that city was destroyed. In a few days General Leadbetter, who detached promptly a sufficient force for the purpose will have all the damage repaired and little delay will occur in the transportation of coal over it. We are pleased to learn that soldiers with the energy and military discipline prevail at Chattanooga. Leyden says we are prepared to deal justly with all parties concerned to censure what ought to be censured and to defend where injustice has been done to the troops or their commanders.

What I was wondering was if anyone knew about this bridge because the raiders never mentioned making it to Chattanooga. They burnt track and torn down telegraph wires but nothing about a bridge. The men were captured in Bridge port and Stevenson as well. I saw no mention of a bridge burning in Chattanooga.
