Mr. Colbaugh,

Read the article again.

It is not talking about Andrew's Raiders. It is talking about Confederate soldiers burning a bridge over a creek near the "city". "He also advises that from some of the misunderstanding is the bridge over the creek near that city was destroyed." I am not sure which creek they are referring to; Chattanooga Creek, Chickamauga Creek, or another less defined tributary.

Remember, the "Daily Intelligencer" was published in Atlanta and they are talking about Colonel Leyden "went to relief of Chattanooga" and "returned to our city".

During this time period, the Chattanooga and East Tennessee area was little less than mass confusion. From all the research that I have done, little systematic control was help over troop movements and missions during this time period. Most of the attention was out in Middle Tennessee and northern Mississippi. It does not appear that Leadbetter had any idea of what Federal forces opposed him or that any organized Cavalry Operations were feeding him information west of the Tennessee River but there does appear to have been a whole lot of finger pointing going on.

I hope this helps.

Respectfully,
