Research on almost any Confederate regiment needs to be done at the brigade level. Sometimes we get so hyper-focused that we can't see the target. You'll miss lots of information if you're only looking for references to the regiment alone. For that matter, you really should open the scope to include other regiments serving in the same brigade. The typical researcher will have weeks of data to study (several hours a day) simply by using this method on the Official Records.

If you then look for information in published sources (books, articles, including Confederate Veteran Magazine), you should be loaded up for some time. If you study the campaigns of Generals Wheeler and Forrest which involved this regiment, there will be lots to read there. I would also look at pension applications and Tennessee questionnaires submitted by veterans.

Don't forget the service files for this regiment. You can learn a lot by reading them: facts like where each company was organized, who the field, staff and company officers were and what happened to each member. You can order the microfilm a couple of different ways, or plan a visit to the Tennessee State Archives. Almost certainly they have voluminous files on this regiment and its sister units.

This ought to be enough to keep anyone busy for a while!
