He died in 1898 before the questionaire program was initiated.

The census only indicates service in the 6th TN Inf. Company is left blank. His origianl company was Company I, The Gadsden Spartans. He enlisted with his brother Allen H. Young on May 23, 1861, Allen H. Young died at Shiloh.

He lived in Madison Co. in 1850, & Gibson Co. in 1860, he enlisted from an area (Gadsden) that became part of Crockett County in 1872 when this county was formed.
