Sorry to take so long to get back to you.
I still say the nearest Mormon library is a really good bet. If they were old enough to be in the military, then these men were old enough to buy and sell land.
In my case, all I knew was my ggg grandfather was out of N. C. When I entered his name into the suggested site, up it pops with several men by that name, but there was only one in N. C. by that name and it swung me into Pitt Co. I am telling you that if I can find it, you can too.
I would also try the surrounding counties as some of those have not only excellent sites, but helpful volunteers.
The reason I suggest these activities is because they have been helpful to me in the past.
In the past month, three families that I had hit the brickwall on, well that wall came crumbling down.
Whatever you do, do not give up!!
