Sorry to say but Gantt's Battalion performed terribly in the Henry-Donelson Campaign. They were supposed to cover the rear of Heiman's retreating Confederates from Henry and they stampeded to safety leaving the Union cavalry companies a clear shot at the tail end of the Confederate column.
They did not sally forth with Forrest either during the breakout attack nor did they try to escape with his troopers when the surrender was announced to the garrison.
They would do better later on - but in this campaign they were pretty usesless.
