Alan, thanks for your help. I have another question. At the TSLA on the pension list his unit is given as 12th Bn. (Day's)Cav. Please, could you tell me about this unit? I am confused as to why nothing was mentioned about this unit in his pension file, although he did mention being in a few skirmishes and being detailed by the governmet to make horse shoes which he did till General Robert Lee surrenderd. Did the government furnish the material for him to make the horse shoes? I also found on another TN site that he was in companies A and F while serving in the 12tn Bn. Hard to believe that the TSLA could not find a few military files on G G Grandfather.
