Re: Gantt's 9th Batt Tn Cavalry@ Ft.Donelson

I have never come across Captain Bromley's diary, but I would sure love to. Cpt.Bromley was in command of the half of the battalion that stayed with Wheeler when Major Akin and the other detatchment was with Forrest in late 1864.
Captain Bromley saw some exciting times. Along with the 8th Texas Rangers he led his boys in a cavalry charge at Waynesboro and was with Humes in the giant cavalry scrap at Monroe's Crossroads preceding the battle of Bentonville.

I have found the diary of Captain Thomas Whitehead who commanded company F from the reorganization after their release from prison to the siege at Port Hudson. I know this wasn't very long but scholars of the Battalion should find it interesting nonetheless. Check out this web address http://tns-verso.auto-graphics.com/verso/admin/showbib.asp?BN=152374
Also, I have found the history of the Battalion with the diary of H.Clay Mack published by Eastern Digital Resources
http://www.researchonline.net their phone number is (803)439-2938. Mack was a seargent with the Battalion. This historical sketch also contains the most complete roster for the battalion that I have ever come across.
My Great Grandfather was a private in company E,and my Great Uncle, Major James H. Akin, commanded the Battalion after Gantt was captured in 1863.
