John Cunningham's brother was Francis Franklin Cunningham. There was a Capt Francis Franklin Cunningham in the 2nd/8th cavalry and I have his service record. I thought he might be my uncle, but I have no verification of this other than the exact same name.
I came to the conclusion, over the years, that they may have been hiding their service for 2 reasons. 1st, over 8 years I have found the Union men so easily and have found little or nothing on the Southern men. My grandfather told us that all the men went to fight and took all the horses, grain, and guns. 2nd, Union Col Stoneman had issued an order saying all Rebel soldiers were to be hung when found off of their land. Stoneman operated during and after the war in East Tn & Western NC.
The 2 men documented in Ashby's cav are probably related to us, but not Mordicia's sons.
The 1912 obituary for John Cunningham was destroyed in a fire and I have never found one. His brothers-in-law, the 3 Burchetts, are well documented in Carter's 1st Tn Cavalry. His uncle, Marcus Cook, was in Ashby's Cavalry and died in Camp Morton and is buried there.

Thanks for the help!
