I don't think the Richard H. Carney who served in Baxter's Battery is the man you are looking for. The following is excerpted from the book "Capt. Ed Baxter & His Tennessee Artillerymen, CSA" by Dennis J. Lampley: "Corporal Richard H. Carney Born: 1823 Died: ? In 1870 resided in Blairsville (Union Co.), GA. Enlisted in Baxter's Battery: January 17, 1864 in Fulton Co., GA by Capt. Baxter. Formerly served in Anderson's Company of Georgia Infantry. Sent to hospital from Atlanta August 12, 1864. Appointed Corporal December 12, 1864 upon reduction in rank of J.L. Sweeney. Married Catharine Queen January 6, 1847 in Union County, GA."
