In reading the links here I find there seems to be some confusion that I believe I can shed some light on. Jacob Low and four of his brothers all fought in the war. Jacob and John "Pit" fought for the Confederacy and his brothers Alexander, Joseph and Phillip fought for the Union. In the Oneida, Tennessee First National Bank Chronicle, Winter 2004 edition was an article "Lowe's in the Civil War". I quote for that article: "Jacob Low was in the same regiment and company as fellow Scott Countian Joseph Shoopman and was living in Maggie, North Carolina when he provided an affidavit in support of Louisa Caroline Shoopman's claim for a widow's invalid pension from the State of Tennessee." The regiment referenced was Company M, 5th Tennessee Infantry (Confederate).

These brothers are my 2nd great grand uncles. John "Pit" joined Kain's Artillery in Knoxville, Tennessee in March of 1862 at the age of 16. Also, his cousin John "Rat" Low joined with him at the age of 8. They were both discharged for being under age 18 in January 1863 at Cumberland Gap.

Alexander served in Company C, 7th Tennessee Mounted Infantry; Joseph and Phillip served in Company G, 2nd Tennessee Infantry;
