Jessica: My name is Kent Higginbotham I am the son of Carl Higginbotham who is Aunt Thelma's brother. In Herston,s book "the desendants of Moses ect." He does mention the desertion Of Isaac robert Higginbotham. This is told in detail in Herston,s (Earl)and aunt Nena's book. The only problem with the information that Herston and Your research has found is that the "Sons of Conferate Vetrans" does not show Isaac Robert as a deserter.Therefore, there is still a question as to the validity of this information. The pension application was files many, many years after the war and therefore could be questionable. The fact that there was two family members murdered late in the war could have something to do with this claim of desertion. It is beleived that Isaac robert was involved in the tracking down and killing of the home guard members who killed his brother and cousin 1864. That would be a very interesting subject to research.
