Mr. Miller,

May I point out that the 9th Tennessee Cavalry, US, was recruited mainly from men of East Tennessee, including Greeneville. Where this man was in 1890 may have no bearing on Civil War service. Some of these men moved about extensively after the war. As to the M.V.B. Miller in the 64th Virginia Mounted Infantry(Cavalry), CSA, these men were independent minded individuals who refused to serve in any other region. The unit contained many Tennesseans and Kentuckians from counties bordering virginia, who did not want to get too far from home.
