Re: Tennessee regiments, Shiloh

The Alabama House of Representatives asked Governor Moore for an account of the money spent for arms. That report appears in the House Journal for the called session of January 1861. Gov. Moore provided a detailed list of just over 9,000 arms, enough to arm 75 of the 85 companies that had organized and been accepted in the AVC by the end of 1860.

Gov. Moore's list includes 3,500 'George Law' altered percussion rifles. The Senate Journal for the same session includes results of range tests made with these arms, probably M1842 U.S. muskets rifled during the mid-1850s. Some gentlemen in the Alabama legislature believed these muskets to be sub-standard weaponry not worth the taxpayer's money. That explains the tests, which produced excellent results.

Being a very thorough researcher, you may have already examined Tennessee legislative journals covering the late antebellum period. If not, that may prove to be a fruitful field for you.
