I possess the microfilm rolls for the Compiled Service Records for the 43rd Tennessee, below is all there is in his file. The regiment following parole at Vicksburg, marched to Enterprise, Mississippi where they entrained home via Mobile, Alabama.

Elder, R. W., Pvt., Co. D, enlisted November 1, 1862 at Decatur, Tenn., bounty due $50.00, captured and paroled at Vicksburg July 4-9, 1863, March 11, 1864 muster marks absent, noting: “Missing, sent from Vicksburg to Enterprise, Miss. July 14, 1863 [Descendant Karen Quaintance] (M268 Roll 291)

Captain Hodge’s Company D was mustered into service at Knoxville, Tenn. on the 1st day of November, 1861 and was stationed initially at Charleston, Tenn., guarding the railroad bridge over the Hiwasee River.

The only surviving muster rolls for the regiment after June 30, 1863 was that dated March 11, 1864, and only five of the ten company muster rolls of that date survived to be recorded in the CSRs.
