I live quite a bit further to the NW of the area you mentioned.
Sparks, Nevada. That is a long way from any major CW battlefields. My thinking, though, is that the battlefields are in our minds and we are still trying to work it all out nearly 150 years later, to try to reason out the issues that set them all off on such a violent path. I do a lot of genealogy and when I look at the birth years of 1825 or so until around 1845, I think of them as almost a doomed generation, compelled by a waiting history to step forward and finish the tragic play.
I imagine the Kennesaw group was interesting. What a terrible battle. The Confederate captain that stopped the killing long enough to save some of the wounded federals from the brush fire -- that is my kind of hero.
