You can hope he made it to the trench.
This is the same stuff that a earlier thread got moved to the News and Views about. The people were talking about
another cemetery and how the dead were buried. It came up about Shiloh and I posted that when my late mother visited Shiloh,
she said, "just look how they treated our boys." You would have thought I had insulted this man and so the thread went until
Mr. Martin moved the site of the discussion. I suggest you go over to the News and Views and check that site out around about
Jan. 1. If you had posted this at that time, Mr. Martin would have probably had to remove it from the board.
My gg grandfather's first cousin, a Pearce from the 8th Arkansas was killed and buried there at Shiloh. My gg grandfather,
Sgt. J. D. Pearce of the 8th Arkansas, was "shot through and through" at the Hornets nest and lived to fight another day having
the opportunity to go to his dad's home in Mifflin, Tenn. to heal up, so he could continue to fight.
My great grandfather James Thomas Harper with the 5th Tenn, was shot there on the first day and never took another normal
step in his life though he continued to fight. The youngest of the Guthrie boys who was my ggg uncle, Owen, of the 10th Arkansas
was wounded and died by April the 30th burial place unknown, hopefully in a family plot somewhere
in Mississippi. I can relate to everything you have said.
Thanks for posting.
Linda
