PS

I think Keiner's intent was to have this Confederate burial trench's location pinpointed, if it already has not been. Some trenches, as another poster says above, have not been clearly identified. Keiner has given us a contemporary description of the location of one Confederate trench within a few feet of the original trench of the Sixth Iowa. If the Sixth Iowa's original burial place is known today, then a Confederate trench is within two rods of it. The soldier related the site was unmarked at the time of his visit, 30 years later, so this may be useful information for researchers if that particular Confederate burial site is not marked today.

I beleive Keiner's observation of identical burial trenches, side by side, of Union and Confederate dead, was trying to be helpful in locating a burial site of Southern graves, not to inflame false indignation over supposed disrespect and bad treatment of one side.
