Many thanks for the information. You seem to have confirmed what I have suspected in that the dates in Fergusons memoirs are not entirely correct. He states that in December he was ordered to attack Pocahontas but due to adverse weather he could not proceed much beyond Ripley (2 days atleast having set off from Okolona), again he was ordered to Ripley to confront a Federal Brigade but due to swollen rivers he could not cross the swamp into Ripley (retraced his route to New Albanywhere he states he was held up for two dayswaiting for the floods to abate). Finally he manages to get to Saulsbury after defeating two Federal Rgiments at Ripley. In order for all these events to fit together, I belive that he must have first been ordered to attack Pocahontas earlier, say late November, as Forrest was reported to have arrived in Jackson Tennessee on the 6th December and Ferguson was at Saulsbury a full half day before Forrest. I do not think that Ferguson could have acheived all of this in less than a week. Also were the regiments that Ferguson fought those of Colonel Mizner, if so I think Ferguson's time line must be wrong. What do you think?
