I visited the Hamilton cabin yesterday... it's located on Gainesboro Rd. The property also has a grave of an unknown confederate soldier buried there. It is owned by a nice lady, Anna Kelly, and currently has renters living in it! Satellite TV and all! I have the story that Col Hamilton's father, Dr. Adam Hamilton, a prominant citizen, built it for Col. Hamilton's sister around 1850, who married a Fowler, and she then lived there. It is not the cabin Col Hamilton was captured in. Somehow later it was transferred to a family named Marcum, and that's the grand-daughter that owns it now, and the also much of the land the Hamilton's had owned. After Col. Hamilton was killed, his wife tried to make a go of it several years but couldn't...I guess she sold out. The local high school senior class take a photo there each year. Now this is funny...Ms. Kelly had no idea this was the Hamilton cabin! She thought someone else had built it, but wasn't sure. My family resources have me pretty well convinced this was the cabin built for the Col's sister.
