The Friends of Fort Defiance in Clarksville, Tennessee are sponsoring the first of what is hoped to be an annual civil war encampment/living history and ball on the weekend of August 29-30, 2009. The encampment and living history will be held at Rotary Park in Clarksville instead of on the fort premises due to construction work. The encampment and living history is a free event with firewood and hay/straw provided for reenactors. You must have an above ground fire ring if camping. No fire pits will be allowed.

The ball is a ticketed event to raise money for the new Fort Defiance Visitors Center. The ball will be hosted by the Friends of Fort Defiance at the Smith-Trahern Mansion in Clarksville from 5-9 PM on August 29. Reenactors who camp for the weekend can purchase tickets to the ball for $15 per person. Reenactors that do not camp can purchase tickets for $30 per person. Dinner will be provided at the ball, along with period music and dancing. Period dress is required for all those wishing to attend the ball.
