Smiths are very hard to trace!

Yes he had one brother that served - George Alexander Smith born August 3, 1822. In 1860 George A. Smith was living in District 22, Greene County TN post office Camp Creek.

In 1850 George A and his brother William A. were living with their mother in "the 9th [may be 19th] division E District"

In 1860 there is a William Smith living in the 19th district of Greene County TN age 33 that may be the one I'm looking for.

In the tintype he is holding a pistol and saber, wearing a uniform. Because of the saber I'm thinking he might have been calvary or mounted infantry. There is a belt buckle but I cannot read what is on it. Would anyone be willing to look at a scan from the tintype? After enlarging and looking at it I'm beginning to wonder if the person that identified it might be mistaken as he is decked out pretty good. Another documented family member fought for the Union and based on the uniform I now wonder if this is actually the Union soldier instead. If someone would look at it and give me a second opinion please let me know and I'll send it to you.
