Thanks for the offer, where in North Georgia do you live?

George Martin

Burk, James A., 3rd Sgt., Co. K, age 21, enlisted October 17, 1861 at Ooltewah, Tenn. for 12 months, reverted to Pvt. May 10, 1862, captured and paroled at Vicksburg July 4-9, 1863, swore Oath of Allegiance to the US on March 12, 1864 at Chattanooga, Tenn., description: complexion-light; hair -dark; eyes-black; height-5 ft. 10 1/2 in., resident of Hamilton County, Tenn. (M268 Roll 290)

Note, I record men in my roster with the highest rank held. On May 10, 1862, on re-organization of the Confederate Army, he was either not running for the position, or he was not reelected Sgt., thus reverting to the ranks.

Swearing to the oath of allegiance to the United States before Lee's surrender at Appomattox would render him ineligible for a later Confederate pension.

My ggrandfather and his 3 brothers also served in Co. K.
