What Happened To Co. N of the 64th NC, CSA?

Can anyone enlighten me as to what happened to the men of Captain John F. Fitzgerald's Company (N) of soldiers in the Confederate 64th North Carolina Infantry Regiment? It is my understanding that after the outfit's reorganization in 1862, when they dropped the "State Troops" designation, they were thought to become a "Legion", when somehow, that idea was dropped, and they simply became a Regiment instead. My GG Grandpa Hampton McGill enlisted 27 Sept 1862 in Capt. Fitzgerald's Company of that regiment, but the originally planned 13 companies were reduced to only 10. Did the rest of the men (including Capt. Fitzgerald) get drawn into the other companies, or were they just sent home? Been wrestling this one for awhile, and would certainly appreciate any ideas you might have.

THank you very much,
ROY
