Oliver P. Hicks, Private, Company G, 8th Regiment Tennessee Cavalry*, enlisted August 25, 1863 in Jackson County by Col. G. G. Dibrell for the duration of the war, value of horse $195, Equipments $10, recorded present, n.d. [believe August, 1863] , the company then stationed at Murfreesboro, no further records, the next surviving company muster roll covering the period June 30 to December 31, 1864 does not record him, this would indicate he would have been dropped from the rolls sometime after his enlistment, this could have been discharge for disability, death, capture, desertion, etc. Capture seems unlikely as their are no Federal POW records in his file

* This regiment was organized as Partisan Rangers in September, 1862 with twelve companies, and was remustered as cavalry in October 1862, and consolidated into ten companies. It was officially designated the 13th Regiment Tennessee Cavalry by the A. & I. G. O., but was mustered in the field for a while as the 8th Regiment Tennessee Cavalry, and as Dibrell's Regiment Tennessee Cavalry.
