There does seem to be a gap in the service records of Confederate Soldiers of the AoT starting in the spring of 1864. Why is this ?
Were the records simply not kept due to the constant fighting & falling back which occurred during the Atlanta Campaign or were the records kept during this time period eventually lost or destroyed ?
In the back of my mind is something I read concerning Confederate records being sent off in wagons and subjected to horrendous conditions. I want to say this was after Franklin or Nashville but I don't recall exactly. I wish I could remember the book as I'd like to re-read this information.
Thanks,
