The Tennessee in the Civil War Message Board

You must be very proud of your ancestor and the unit he served with. It tells much about the hopes and fears and difficulties soldiers went through. I had confederate relatives in Tennessee and union relatives in Kentucky. I haven't traced my Missouri relatives yet, but I'm sure they served on one side or the other, with fidelity. A book that hasn't much to do with the war in Tennessee, but gives the view point of a civilian and reservist during the war is "A Rebel War Clerk's Diary," by John B. Jones, with reprints in two volumes. It's very educational and while filled with many mundane facts, like the cost of onions or flour, it makes for an interesting read.
