Thank you, Jim, and thank you for these links. I will check into them. I have a very faint Parole Slip dated 7 July 1863, Vicksburg, Mississippi and it looks for all the world that it shows 36th Texas Inf. It's been about 20 years since I visited Vicksburg, so I've slept a few times since then, and guess I was confused about that. Thanks for setting me straight. That is one issue.

The other issue, and a much larger one, concerns a Dan "Messenhamer" that served with the 36th Texas ?? He served under Captain James G. Story's Co. A. I am part of a group working to restore an 1855 cemetery in which Dan Misenheimer is buried, and which bears his name. If I can't get him validated as a Civil War veteran, we stand a chance of losing that cemetery to a new state highway.
So you can see why I am asking dumb questions !!!

I will check out the sites you have given me, and again - thank you so much.
