Texas State Troops Brigades

Researching the Texas State Troops Brigades can be very difficult. The following information can simplify things somewhat. The State Troops Brigades correspond directly to the 33 Senatorial Districts in Texas as of 1860. For example, the 2nd Senatorial District included Jasper, Newton, Orange, Tyler and Hardin Counties. On the State Troops side, it was the 2nd State Troops Brigade, commanded by Brig. Gen. Wm. Madison Neyland of Jasper. The only exception to this rule was district 1 (Austin) which was commanded by the State Adjutant General.

All State Troops records, musters, and correspondence are in the Texas State Archives in Austin.
