Re: John Schumpert 17th Consoildated Dismounted Co

The 17th Consolidated Dismounted Cav was a Trans Mississippi unit made up from those who escaped from and or were not present at Arkansas Post. The colonel (Taylor) and lt. colonel (Noble) were killed at Mansfield, where the regiment lost heavy and fought very well. This unit was a completely different regiment from the 17th/18th Con Dis Cav and I believe it was never reconized as such by Richmond. The 17th Texas Cavalry has a unique history but the different units are often mixed up.
