Re: Ellis Blues, Ellis Cty, 4th Regt. Col. Wm. H.

Battle of Cotton Plant was also know as Battle of Plantation Hill,Cache River, and Round Hill.Union forces were 11th Wisconsin,33rd Illinois, and 1st Indiana. This battle had a lot of signifiance because it had a great influence on the outcome of the Vicksburg campaign. The Confederate attack was led by Brig. Gen. Albert Rust, who moved to slow, and most of the attack was led Col. William H. Parson's Cavarly regiments. Union reinforcements arrived and the Confederates, greatly out numbered, fled leaving some dead and dying behind.
