5th Mounted Texas Volunteers

I would like any information on the 5th Mounted Volunteers.
I recently purchased an Alabama document stating that:

1st lt. Demetrius M. Bass died on or about March 9,1862
at the Battle Of Valverde,New Mexico from the effect of wounds.
He was commanded by Colonel Thomas Green or Greer, can't quite make the spelling out.
His mother Elizabeth Bass was trying to claim any back pay or wages due from the State Of Alabama,Russell County
to the Confederate States Of America.

Any information will be much appreciated from a Mississippi
S.C.V. member
