His name is John Withrow Patterson. He told his son that a some point he was a prisoner and survived off of eating corn out horse dung. Enlisted in 1862 at Fort Belknap for the Frointer Regiment. In 1863 he enlisted for three years for the Confederate Mounted Volunteers
