In 1862, Brig. Gen.Joseph L.Hogg's Brigade was sent east of the Mississippi River and was removed from the Trans-Mississippi Department command. That is why little is heard of the Locke's 10th, Young's 11th and Greer's 3rd Texas Cavalry Regiments after 1862.
Also included in Hogg's Brigade was the last 168 effectives of Col. Dandridge McRae's 15th Northwest Arkansas Infantry Regiment. McRae's entire infantry regiment was nearly lost at Wilson's Creek and Elkhorn Tavern.
Joseph L. Hogg was arrested by Maj. Gen. P.G.T. Beauregard for endangering a railroad supply train and his command was combined with Brig.Gen. Sullivan Ross's Brigade.
