Does anyone know how many heavy artillery units there actually were? It appears as though the First was divided up and placed at hard points along the coast (by company?) to man heavy naval type guns. I've never seen anything to suggest that they had the kind of teams to move heavy guns in the field. Other than actions in Louisiana, I'm not sure they had the need.
