Re: Thanks guys..Sorry for the late response

I make errors trying to write something from memory. Ector's Brigade, Army of Tennessee was not involved in the battle of Corninth.

In 1861, Mathew D.Ector enlisted in the 3rd Texas Cavalry and was shortly elected first lieutenant and was ajutant to Gen. Hogg. He saw action with the 3rd Texas Cavalry at Wilson's Creek Missouri, Indian Territory and Pea Ridge Arkansas before being promoted to colonel and given the command of the 14th Texas Cavalry.

The 14th Texas Cavalry was dismounted and moved across the Mississippi River to join the Army of Tennessee. Col. Ector was leading the 14th Texas Cavalry in the battle of Richmond Kentucky when he was promoted to brigadier general on August 23, 1862. After the battle of Richmond Kentucky, the 10th Texas Cavalry was consolidated with the 14th Texas Cavalry as part of Ector's Brigade.

The original units of Ector's Brigade were the 10th Texas Cavalry, 11th Texas Cavalry and the 14th Texas Cavalry, all dismounted, and the Douglas Battery. The 15th Texas Cavalry (dismounted) joined the brigade soon after it was formed. Col. William C.Young's 11th Texas Cavalry was remounted after the battle of Mufreesboro,Tennessee and its place in the line was taken by the 9th Texas Infantry. The 9th Texas Infantry was where I made the mistake about Ector's Brigade being at the battle of Corinth. The 9th Texas Cavalry was at the battle of Corinth, not the 9th Texas Infantry. On October 2,1862, my g.grandmothers brothers, M.L. and J.M. Blanton enlisted in Col. William B. Simm's 9th Texas Cavalry at Camp Reeves in Collin County Texas. They were killed in action at the battle of Corinth on Oct.3,1862.

Ector's Brigade marched to Vicksburg to join Gen.Joseph E.Johston's forces in an attempt to relieve the besieged Confederates. After the surrender of that city, Ector's Brigade returned to the Army of Tennessee and participated in the battle of Chickamauga, Georgia on September 19-20, 1863.

My great-grandfather 2nd Lt. Andrew Jackson Webb was in the U.S. 2nd Cavalry, Gen. Rosecran's Army of the Cumberland at the battle of Chickamauga. He lost his horse and carbine when Confederate General Longstreet's Cavalry hit the Union lines at Chickamauga Creek.
