Ada, in 1863 the 6th was reorginzed with others to become Second Partisan Rangers; Stone's Regiment,but I did not find his name listed with this unit. He either joined another unit,which some did,or went home or died on frontier in one of the many indian skirmishes the 6th was involved in late 1861-62. His enlistments records would probably be only way to find out,but then they may not help either.
