This battery was mustered into CS service in October 1861 and initially sent to Fort Brown. Started out with 4 12 pound Napoleons and 2 24 pound howitzers.
August 1862, sent to Corpus Christi
Fall 1863 assigned to DeBray's brigade near Houston.
December 1863 sent to McNeel's plantation
Early 1864 to Galveston.
Upon Wilkes promotion, command passed to Capt. Samuel W. Allen in November 1864. Battery redesignated 6th Texas Field Artillery. May 1865 had 2 12 pounders and 2 24 pounders.
